Permanent Residence begins with a year of legal residence

For Permanent Residence, Belize Immigration says an applicant must have legally lived in Belize for at least one year before applying. During that year, the person cannot have spent more than 14 days outside Belize in total. The page also requires past and continuing financial stability and that the applicant meet its requirement about criminal records.

For a family, that first year needs to work as ordinary life, not only as a series of short visits.

Temporary Residence has a different qualification basis

Temporary Residence is a one-year status that can be renewed. Belize Immigration describes it for people who have made, or are making, a substantial commercial investment in Belize and cannot meet ordinary Permanent Residence restrictions because of commitments outside the country.
